Hi, I was recently asked if we have anyone who know s about "Jake Drake birds". The question asker stated "Because of Jake Drake's impact on carving in America, I would hope to gather some guidance." He needs a couple of pieces evaluated for value.

Does anyone know about this carver? My Google search did not reveal anything, but that is not the end all of knowledge.

Aloha Janel,

I went through the same Google search that you probably used. Then I tried Jake decoy and Drake decoy. Came up with male turkey and duck respectively. Could that be it?
If so, there was an Antiques Roadshow segment on carved decoy values and appraisers.

I've never heard of him either, but you could fill warehouses with the names of artists that I have never heard of.

Thanks Karl and Phil. I asked if he could provide images of the pieces, but he has not replied. This is a curiosity.

You might be able to find something out through the Ward Museum. It is the place for decoy carvers and wildlife carvers. They might be able to assist you or put you in touch with someone who can.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am passing the information along to the information seeker.

I guess "Jake Drake" doesn't have an impact on carving in america as one might think. ;)

However, I think there may be a typo involved. I know of a Jack Drake, and a lot of hunting decoys are named Drake decoys, probably after his carvings.

Interesting enough, there was a post on these forums mentioning Mr. Drake: http://www.thecarvingpath.net/forum/index....&#entry5977

Also some of his carvings are in this book http://store.russell...ofdebicasr.html

Info on the guy seems pretty difficult to track down, but I bet they would know a lot more on a decoy carving forum.

Correction made by question asker: The information is being sought about >>> Jack Drake. Muskett mentioned that carver here on TCP. Now to find Muskett...
