I just finished reading "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy. What an intense story!
For those of you unfamiliar, it's about a man and his son on a post apocalyptic journey thru a nuclear(?)* winter in a dead world, evading the only people left to avoid starvation and cannibals. They are following a road "south" to the sea to find warmer climate. It's scary, touching and ultimately grim. I highly recommend it.
*We never really know for sure what caused the destruction. It could be caused by a comet or giant meteor impact. But thru brief flashbacks, we know fire and ash destroyed all plant and most all animal and human life.

Hi Mike,
"it's about a man and his son on a post apocalyptic journey thru a nuclear(?)* winter in a dead world, evading the only people left to avoid starvation and cannibals."
sounds like an uplifting read....not!
If I want to get that depressed I just watch the news
just teasing,
Ford

It is depressing, but also vivd. Really, though, it's a story of love and devotion. That's always good.
