What kind of finish??? nicely done puppy

A few days ago I bought this puppy. This piece is not signed and has a very nice finish.
The himotoshi is placed on it's belly.
Is there anyone who could tell me more about this piece????
Especially the finishing...
It's made from boxwood (I think)
And what can we tell about it's age? Hard to find out he?!

I don't know the answers to your questions. Have you asked this question on the International Netsuke Society forum? Someone there might have answers or thoughts to share with you about this piece.

Does the finish seem to be a metallic paint or lacquer?
