Hello,

I am Cliff and I enjoy carving and making walking sticks and canes. I also enjoy carving cottonwood "gnome homes" and "fairy castles". I have been whittling whimsies for 20+ years and carving for nearly 10.

Welcome to The Carving Path, Cliff!

I know that cottonwood trees can grow very large in diameter, do your gnome homes get to be large sometimes too?

Janel,

The medium I use is the bark of the cottonwood trees. Cottonwood bark can get very (4"-6") thick on older trees and is very nice to carve. My whimsical houses and castles are usually less than 12" high and 3"- 4" wide.

Hi Cliff,

Good to see you here, welcome. TCP is a great place for resources. The artists and carvers are topnotch and their pieces are absolutely wonderful. You'll barely have time for carving once you start going through the posts.
