Hello-
I'm new to this forum, but have been lurking as Janel says, for a long time.
I've recently had some Elk antler given to me. I've sanded it and it seems to have stains deep into the hard part that I would like to get rid of to produce a nice ivory or white color. Is there a way to get rid of it? I've read some Maori bone carving websites that advocate bleaching but give no recipes/procedures for doing this. Plus they are using bone. I'm not sure that this is relevant to antler.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Men make plans and GOD laughs.

Hi, Paul!
I had negative experience of bleaching of a antler of an elk - a chloric solution - it was, of course, bleached, but the antler became very porous and work has been spoilt ;(.
May be hydrogen peroxide?

I have had some success with Denture cleaning tablets, those with whitening agents can remove some blood stains.A weak solution of household bleach can remove the stains also without damaging the antler.
