    Staining Antler

Hi All, I have spent a while carving a ryusa style netsuke in antler. Antler is very lovely, but I want to pick out some details in colour (greens and browns as the carving is of an owl in an oak tree). I only want some delicate staining, I do not want to overpower the material and do not want to use surface pigment that will rub off with wear and tear. Any advice, or links to other discussions would be gratefully accepted. Andrew

    Finshing Ivory Pendants

what is the best finish for mammoth ivory pendants, Natasha mentioned white spirits and paraffin, any other methods that will protect against body oils and moisture.
  3. I saw this photograph in an old book about silver jewelry. This "Lioness" ring was by an unknown maker, I think around 1900 from a private collection. I think the painterly carving marks are very beautiful and I wanted to have it so I'm trying to make my own from this photo... Here it is in progress in it's current state, sorry the photo isn't better.
