shibuichi vase

Recommended Posts

OK, well I'll kick this off with a metal piece from last year. I'd like to encourage metal carvers and engravers to join in. This piece was initially cast in shibuichi(85% copper/15%silver) with the raised parts of the design in the casting. The balance of the detail was carved and engraved.

Here's what we're working on. It's a small fossil ivory and silver basket, about 2 1/4 inches tall (55 millimeters), and is almost finished. We only need to do a little final shaping, remove the silver uprights extending above the rim and polish. The frog and weaving material are .999 fine silver, the uprights sterling silver, and the white parts are fossil ivory, with an ebony ring.
