Tsuba

I do not post much so here is a tsuba I made not quite done yet but close. Tim Herman got me interested in coloring engraving he has a secret way to do this. I came up with my own way, dont know if this is Tims way or not. Also thanks to Jim Kelso for the frog tutoral, All comments welcome. Thanks Dave

The engraving looks nicely cut and the design balanced.

 

Tsuba generally have quite subtle shaping details which at first glance may not seem that important, but actually add a lot in terms of visual interest. I'm going to add a photo of a Natsuo piece and another by Okawa Teikan both from the MFA Boston that show the rounded edge and dishing toward the center from the edge, that you see on many fine tsuba of that general type.

 

Obviously it's going to be a lot of work to get that shaping and you'll have to decide if it's worth it to you.
