Janel
Janel In Japan I have made a really simple, bare bones addition to my site, not linked either way to or from the main site though. My intention is to update it when I am able to. So far, I have returned safely to my hotel by the end of each day. There is much success in that! Bye bye for now. Today is a big day. Corky2
Janel, this is a fascinating blog! The pictures are so interesting! The pictures of KOMADA Ryushi's class look like classes here, and his workshop is lovely to see! The picture of the cemetery is like a Cezanne. Nice one of the two cooks in the sushi restaurant. These are all great to see! Thanks so much for doing the blog. Kitty

Janel
Hi you all, Sorry that I have not kept up with the web/travel log. The days and evenings have been so full! Tonight I have time for a short addition and fun photo opportunity. Over time, I will work on additions to share the journey. This evening, Hollis Goodall and I were seeking dinner at the Meitetsu department store, not far from our hotel. We happened to land on the Kimono floor of this store, and were delighted to be in conversation with the sales woman. Hollis asked questions about a particular piece of the kimono (in her very good Japanese language). Suddenly the woman brought me to the kimono fitting tatami area, and began to dress me in a kimono! This was over my jeans and shirt, and the obi was quickly attached just as an example, but quite effectively to see and feel the wonder of such a garment. Here I am: We eventually found a delicious dinner of sushi, sake, miso soup and some interesting sweet gelatins and green tea. We are on our second, final evening in Nagoya (pronounced NAgoya ), and will head on to Kyoto tomorrow. Hollis's appointment was not made for here, so she managed to get the hotel reservations changed to allow us an extra day in Kyoto, though we could have used more time here too. There are so many things to see, and only so much energy and time in each day! Kyoto will be full of things to see and do. Then suddenly, I will be home on Friday. I will be landing in Minneapolis before I depart from Japan. The miracle of the international date line will thrust me back into Friday, even though my body clock will be at 2 or 3 a.m. Saturday morning. I hope that you are all well and ready to vote. I wonder what I will be able to learn while here in Japan, about the elections. News is not very easy to come by, in English. Smiles to you all, Janel
fkvesic
Janel, thank you for the photo journal. I especially liked the ones of your netsuke-carving friend and his workspace. Did you buy the kimono, or just try it on?
Janel
Not purchased! Kimono cost many thousands of dollars, way many! This was just a fun moment for free, at the cost of laughter and smiles all around! They also appreciated that I am a netsuke carver... DreamingDragonDesigns
That's a very lovely kimono! And it sounds like you're having a good time. Sorry that I haven't been around much- Things have been very busy. (Flip's grandfather passed on, and Flip and I got married, for starters!) Janel
One new page from an earlier week of my journey: Click Here Way to go USA! News of the election has traveled to Japan. One more day in Kyoto, then a train to Narita, to sleep near the airport before departure on Nov. 7 to Minnesota. This has been hugely rewarding and educational. In time, I will add pages as I have time to process some of the photos. Japan is an amazing country. I am thankful for the opportunity to visit it, to be among its people, eat the amazing flavorful and beautiful foods, and to learn about Japanese netsuke. I look forward to returning. Kindest regards, Janel

Janel
A New page has been posted for October 25, a day that I had to myself. There are around 30 photos, so if you have a slow land line connection, my apologies. I do, but I am away for the weekend and using the high speed connections at my relative's home. There was a lot to see on my walk, and only a portion was shared in the photos. GO HERE Janel
