Spoon Caving With Snail

Hello everyone,

This is my first post to new work to share with you all. I usually carve spoons that I give away to family and friends. Sometimes I make further additions if the fancy strikes me. This spoon measures about 10 inches in length and is made of one of my favorite local woods, toyon.

I would like to try this theme again and see if I could work on applying something like a tea stain and to give more texture to the snail. I would love to try and bring the eyestalks more oblique to the body, but in this case I feared that the wood grain would be so small in cross-section that it would break off. Certainly, would not be a good idea if I expect people to be able to handle and actually use the spoon.
