michael B
Carved this little heart from a piece of the best Aussie imperial rhodonite I have, it has a groove running down the center, a basic shape but I think it suits the gem.

michael B
Keith, this flex shaft is only a cheap one, Chinese made, but it works good, I only use it for roughing, my best carving tool is my USIO air pencil grinder, very smooth with heaps of torque and speed, but it does give my compressor a workout, all my smoothing is done by hand as seen with the carbide sticks in the picture. keith Plummer
Thanks for the tip ,I just ordered a pencil grinder ,mostly working with antler and wanting to move into stone, using an Ultima now that turns up to 45,000 and is not quite enough. Is there a good compressor you can recommend that will keep up with the pencil grinder? Cheers down under Keith
michael B
Keith, the larger the cfm the better, mine is a 15, I don,t use it for removing large amounts of material as the compressor drives me nuts, great for drilling and smoothing before I finish by hand, the USIo and NSK are by far the best in this group, 65000 rpm for the USIO and 60 the NSK.
