Richard Andrew C.
This is my first Mother of Pearl pendant. It took me only 2 hrs to cut, design, shape, and finish this pendant. I love the multicolored reflection of the shell and obviously you can see where i got the name ehehehe....what do ya'll think?
Richard Andrew C.
by the way this pendant was just meant to be done so i could get a feel on how durable it is and how much it could take and it did perfectly well. i recommend the material to pendant carvers if you are able to acquire Mother of Pearl

Irene S
Very cool! I thought it was metal at first! What a neat material! Are you using a Dremel tool? Looks like the same first practice cuts I did on bone lol!!!
Richard Andrew C.
Irene LOL i guess everyone makes a couple of doodles on thier first peices and yes i am using a dremel but the basic single speed Dremel 100...hoping to upgrade soon now that i am back on the Mainland in florida. Tony, i think you would love it. it does not have the fishy smell that other shells have so it should be bearable lol, but although you might already know this USE A DUST MASK....the dust when put under a microscope resemble razorsharp fragments. also if you plan to get hands on with this material bear in mind that it gets hot aweful fast..... Thanks for the comments ya'll
Richard Andrew C.
Tony i am not sure where to get any from New Zealand, but you could check at a couple of shops by the ocean or you can ask a jewelery store if they have any raw mother of pearl...if those don't work you could always order online or find some for yourself. I found my piece over in my backyard in the lagoon on Majuro. if you plan to buy the material can range from $25 to a little over $100 for rarities.
