Sticks & Stones

This is my nearly first adventure into sharing my photos and ideas about what I find near and dear to my heart. Making Stone Handled canes. I have recently published my first website dedicated to selling my work. www.handmadecanes.com I have attached a couple pictures of my work with hopes of getting feedback. When you show some people your work they don't look at it to critique it only to inflate your ego with worthless praise. I want real feedback in order to improve my work and stimulate thought about what I do. Well anyway here goes, take a look. I didn't know these pictures would be so big.post-3370-0-02483200-1378342590.jpgpost-3370-0-06240900-1378342636.jpgpost-3370-0-71192200-1378342655.jpgpost-3370-0-13079200-1378342679.jpgpost-3370-0-68433200-1378342707.jpgpost-3370-0-20187100-1378342739.jpgpost-3370-0-68416200-1378342787.jpg

They look like fun Michael, what do you do to offset the natural top heavy nature of a stone on top, historically these would of made fine clubs. The finish seems a little rough on some of them and the patterns and lines are not strictly clean, however whether this sia problem or not depends on your intention while crafting them. I would be interested in more pictures of how you attach them to the wood.

Hi, welcome. I checked out your site, I like the whole-stone tops. Do you drill into the stone?

Enough with the chit chat... on all but # 4 #5 & # 6 something looks amiss, right? It's just flowing lines and finish sanding. But...

To bring your work to heirloom quality the tenons should be pinned, twice or three times even, across for lasting strength in a situation nobody wants, but with your help, were prepared for. Also: use hickory, ash, elm; woods that take a lickin' and keep on kickin'.

Oak is not like that, no-one wants an axe with an oak handle.

Jade is the toughest stone I know of, although I have a very close second that's attractive.

You have the potential right there on your site to be the best answer to a mugging.

Success! Metlmasher.
