Yes, the shell is bleached boxwood. :

"All in all, this netsuke was not very difficult, but rather timeconsuming. The snailhouse surface and the frogskin was the work with a lot of patient. ...and also to find the right colour. I washed the frog more than 15 times, to get the right express. Snailhouse bleaching was no problem, I have a little bit experience in meantime."

As for Cornel adding more pictures, he would rather be carving and must share that time with caring for two small children...among other activities. Now and then he permits me to add an image of new work here on TCP. I do recommend that you go to his web site to see the other things he has done. http://www.cornelschneider.ch/

I knew Cornel was going to be a great carver when I saw a netsuke of his, oh, maybe five years ago at a netsuke convention. It was a tiny (maybe 1 1/2 inches) violin in an amber (I think) case. All the parts were there. A remarkable piece, as is this one, and all the other carvings on his web site. Well worth a carver's visit!
