Christophe
Hi Michael, Well done on this one. Did you ever thought about working a bit more on the braiding of the "necklace"? I really think that your carving deserve better....but that might just be me. Anyway, congratulations on making the most out of such nice material. michael B
Thanks for the great comments, carving gemstone is my passion, yes it may deserve a better braided lace, I purchase these from NZ, I do have others that I tried that look better, I could learn to do these but its about the stone with me, attached is my latest piece, very similar in design, fluorite, a very brittle soft stone but the shape is self supporting, up to 3000 grit, will go to 200,000 diamond. Ed Twilbeck
Very nice ,,that new one in that clear purple color is cool looking. The style, color and the shape, all looks like it belongs together. Thanks for sharing.
Ed Twilbeck
Michael this the one I made out of ligustrum. It came out ok but not as good looking as the ones you made. Thanks for letting me making one.
Janel
Hi Ed, That wood sure looks like boxwood. I looked up the name of the wood, but did not take much time to read about it. Is it a hard and dense wood? Is it at all like boxwood?
Ed Twilbeck
Janel the simple answer is Kinda, the few pieces I have carved are not as hard as box, seems a little lighter in weight and not as dense, a little easier to carve ,, what I have was grown on the Ms. Gulf Coast, if you get some from a northern area it should be harder and more dense,, even more like Boxwood. The color is cream to almost white,,, I have a couple of pieces the have some spalting,, I will try something with them later. The wood I have was cut down by me ,,and air dried,, still waiting for the rest to dry.
