My Journey In Netsuke Carving

I started collecting Japanese netsuke in 1976 after seeing an exhibition of them at the British Museum in London.Several years later I was inspired to start carving them myself after attending a workshop in the far north of Scotland where I then lived led by the brilliant Sue Wraight. I greatly admire Janel Jacobson's carving skills as well as those of Clive Hallam and Natasha Popova.

I work mainly in wood but have experimented in shetland sheep horn ( I used to keep a flock of rare breed sheep).I still have a lot to learn to develop my carving and finishing skills.

Anyway I show a couple of my modest efforts below -
