Marius Nostro Titus
I recently finished these two (actually the hare still has to be patinated) in preparation for an exhibition. The moon in the night sky with stars is one of my favourite background options when I work in iron, normally with the moon partially obscured. It might seem odd to make a hitsu ana only to fill it up, but to me it diverted attention away from the moon so filling it seemed to be the solution. It is rather tricky to get the hare fur to show up on the pictures but in person it is a lot more visible, especially on the face and feet. Jim Kelso
Nice effort Marius. Will these be mounted on a sword? What materials are the inlays?
Marius Nostro Titus
Thanks, Jim. They will not be mounted on swords at the moment, I'm just working on a number of tsuba in preparation for my first exhibition in my hometown. Any sharp objects might scare off quite a few visitors The inlay material for the two is simply copper on an iron background. I'm just waiting for a friend to mix up a new batch of shakudo and shibuichi before I can get more colourful with the next few projects.
