dcurreri
Hi, I'm trying to get started in carving - without much success so far. I have lots of wood and tools, but I seem to be frozen in the planning phase. My latest procrastination is taking up 3D modeling (software) to make virtual 3D drawings of my (fortunately abstract) designs. This turns out to be hard, and it might take me long enough to learn it that I'll never have to face an actual piece of wood. Anyway, I'm joining the forum prematurely, because I ran across a source of boxwood that you might not know about. They're Octopus Woodworks, and they're in Turkey. I'll post the details on the materials forum. Regards, Don Curreri
Jim Kelso
Welcome Don. I hope you can make the jump to wood. Maybe the simplest of projects is the way to get out of the gate. Modeling clay can be helpful too.
Janel
Welcome to The Carving Path, Don. Just get started! I know that the computer can be an addictive relationship (first hand experience ). Give the wood a chance, leave the computer out of the process until you are hooked on carving with tools. You wrote "it might take me long enough to learn it that I'll never have to face an actual piece of wood." ... that you will never have to face wood? Do you want to carve wood? Just put tools to the wood. See how they feel. I agree with Jim, start with something simple.
