First, thanks to Janel, the webmaster, for helping me get my account working, now I am able to post.

I watched the Shawshank Redemption, starring Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman, which got my interested in rock carving. In the movie he carves his chess pieces and other items very simply, using a small rock hammer and rock blankets. I would like to carve in this manner, using simple hand tools.

Cheers!

Daniel

Welcome Daniel! I hope that you find some answers to this particular interest.

There is a book by Steven Myhre, Bone Carving, (we've discussed it here on TCP) in which I recall a description of stone tools which were used to carve stone sculpture. From that shape he fashioned metal tools for carving bone. Go to http://www.thecarvingpath.com/bookstore.html for a link to that book on Amazon.com

The rock hammer and rock blankets, is that sounding like flint knapping techniques, with striker stones...?
