Scary fish brooch

hello all,

I was just going through some old photos when I came across these old memories. I made this brooch about 18 years ago, when I first arrived in England. The design, as shown on the tracing paper, was done by a friend of mine who was a budding cartoonist. The brooch was a gift for his girlfriend. It was cut out of thick stirling silver plate and carved using chisels and hand engraving scorpers. I think I finished it with a light sulphur based toning to help accentuate the form and texture.

Just a little bit of fun! ;)

Cheers, Ford

p.s. sorry about the quality of the images, they were scanned from photos.

Ford,

I especially like how the fish seems to have the face of a T-Rex ;)

On a serious note, i really like the executions of the details - fins, jowl(?) folds etc - particularly for the scale (total length maybe 1.5 inches??).

And the texture appears to complement the shape very nicely.

Nothing fishy here...

Hi Tazzo, :)

ta very much. It's along time ago but it probably was about 1 and a half inches long. Thanks for seeing the detail. :D .

hey Janel,

actually although it looks very spickey!, hugging Julian's ( my friend, who for obvious reasons I called Fred ) girlfriend, in a platonic kind of way, was in fact completely painless. Well, as long as he did'nt catch me..... ;)

cheers, Ford B)
