Tansu hardware

Recommended Posts

Aloha All,

Here is some of what I worked on last year. This is before formal instruction, TCP, the zogans, alloys and patinas. It is not carving, but repoussed and chased. I was trying to make my own tansu hardware.

The first two are working urajo locks (single action that I built), based on traditional designs. Matching keys seem to be missing.

These came later in the year. I am moving toward native species. The bird is an i'iwi, one of the most endangered on the planet.

Aloha Magnus,

Thanks. Yes, it is copper. I started with 20G originally, but have worked my way up to 14-18G. I have to buy 36"X120" sheets to stay economical, but at $400+/ sheet, it adds up fast.

The hardware goes onto Japanese tansu, haribako, kyodai (chests) that I make out of koa. There are handles, brackets and other fittings that make up a set. I'll work on more pics.
